I graduated with First-Class Honours (CGPA: 4.79/5.0) in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. Additionally, I have been involved in leadership roles and volunteer initiatives. Notably, I served as the President of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers Student Affiliate (NICESA), where I led an initiative to organize the first civil engineering technical workshops on harnessing technology to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Currently, I am taking online courses to further improve my proficiency in data science and Artificial intelligence and its applications to civil engineering. During the weekends, I conduct and also contribute to civil engineering community research on machine learning applications in areas such as forecasting of water quality parameters using ANN, project cost estimation and hydrological environmental investigation and Modelling. Growing up, I have always looked up to my dad who is a civil engineer. Visiting the site often with him to see engineering construction practice, I developed a strong interest to study civil engineering. During my student industrial internship at El-Tojjie and Associates Ltd, I was exposed to soil testing, structural integrity, analysis and design. I was assigned to carry out manual British concrete mix design calculations for a building, which was a lengthy process that requires the use of numerous charts and tables, to validate the Prota-structure software result. While working on this task, I became interested in simplifying this procedure. This inspired my undergraduate research on the “Development of a simplified methodology for British Concrete Mix Design procedure using python”. Simplifying this procedure, I used dataset obtained from laboratory tests to develop a python model and was later published in the Nile Journal for Engineering and Applied Science. This model was integrated into a mobile application and proved very useful for structural engineers and consultancy firms for quick and accurate British concrete mix design. This motivated me to explore the gap between civil engineering and technical solutions. I believe with the growing development in the world, data-driven technical solutions are required to improve development and prevent recurring challenges in civil engineering.
