Chukwuma Chisom Bartholomew

Chukwuma Chisom is a First Class law graduate from the University of Ibadan. His leadership experience includes serving as the Majority Leader of the Students’ Representative Council, University of Ibadan; Speaker of the Sultan Bello Hall House of Assembly; Assistant General Secretary of the Global Youth Parliament (Nigeria Branch); Head of the Audit Committee, Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan; and Chairman of the House Committee on Academics, Students’ Union, University of Ibadan. He has also served as Secretary of the Disciplinary Committee and as an Electoral Commissioner for the Students’ Union. He has volunteered with the Women’s Law Clinic, University of Ibadan, where he participated in outreaches that educated over 500 marginalized women and children on their legal rights. He was part of the student team that represented the faculty in a collaboration with Bennett University, India, and the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Chisom also served as a Rise Selector for Schmidt Futures, where he reviewed, scored, and interviewed applicants for the prestigious global scholarship. Additionally, he was an editor for the Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) National Journal. He has served as a Research Assistant for the UI Service Learning initiative in collaboration with Ashesi University, Ghana, contributing to research aimed at reducing graduate unemployment in Nigeria. He also served as a Research Analyst for the AfCFTA Dialogue, contributing to a book used across Africa to promote awareness about the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He has published over four research papers in reputable journals, including the Journal of Advanced Public International Law. His passion for education led him to co-found the Students’ Renaissance Initiative, which has mentored over 3,500 students in underserved schools in Ibadan and distributed over 400 learning materials including textbooks, exercise books, whiteboards, and other teaching aids since 2021. In 2022, he founded the Let’s Participate Movement, which mobilized over 80 volunteers to assist elderly Nigerians in registering for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). This successfully helped over 1,000 people register online and directed them to the nearest INEC offices for physical registration. He is a recipient of many scholarships, including the John Udeagbala University Meritorious Scholarship, the Johnny Agim, SAN National Meritorious Law School Scholarship, and certificate of Achievement, Purvez Bilimoria Global Award for Legal Excellence. Chisom has won multiple national essay competitions, such as Overall National Winner, Standard Organisation of Nigeria Tertiary Institutions Essay Competition, Grand Winner, Student Lead Africa Essay Competition, Winner, Devatop Centre for Africa Development Essay Competition among others. His leadership and social impact have also earned him notable recognitions, including UI Service Learning Award for commitment to promoting educational initiatives, Vice-Chancellor’s Letter of Commendation for outstanding leadership, a Nomination for the Law Students’ Society Award for Most Outstanding Student in Social Impact.
