I’m Maryam Abubakar , a passionate environmentalist, humanitarian, and the best graduating student (and only female first-class holder) 2024 in my department. I’ve always been drawn to leadership roles, from serving as Senior Girl in secondary school, to being the assistant class representative and Team Lead during my university practical year. During my undergraduate studies, I co-founded a humanitarian foundation with friends, focused on supporting children in rural communities through food outreach and festive celebrations. Though the initiative is currently on hold as I pursue further qualifications, my long term goal is to revive it with the right resources and impact at a larger scale. I assisted my faculty Dean in assessing and raising endangered indigenous trees in the Northern Nigeria. Outside academics, I’m a creative at heart. I design and sew fashion pieces, enjoy cooking (especially experimenting with my own recipes), and love immersing myself in music, novels, and fitness routines. I’m also passionate about the environment, I raise seedlings, capture nature’s beauty through photography (especially trees and skies), and aspire to work with global organizations like the CIFOR-ICRAF, UN or FAO as a researcher, also an academia cause I like to impact knowledge
