Olanrewaju Ibrahim Osiga

I am a native of Ogun State, born in 1997 in Abeokuta, where I completed both my primary and secondary education. After obtaining my Senior Secondary School Certificate in 2015 from Nawair-ud-deen High School, Oke-Ijeun, I worked for three years before pursuing a degree in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management at the University of Ibadan. My passion for education and community development is evident in my academic journey, where I consistently made the Dean’s Roll of Honor for three consecutive years as a first-class student. This same drive to make a positive impact in my environment led me to become a Millennium Fellow under the United Nations Millennium Campus Network. During the fellowship, I executed a social impact project titled “Project Hermetia: Insect for Fish Food,” training over 20 young fish farmers on the cultivation and application of black soldier fly larvae as a sustainable alternative to fishmeal in aquaculture. In my penultimate year, I undertook a mandatory one-year internship at the University of Ibadan Teaching and Research Farm and the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR). There, I gained hands-on experience in fish husbandry, hatchery management, feed formulation, oven-drying fish processing, and marketing, for which I also received an award as one of the top three interns (Class of 2024) in my faculty. Beyond academics, I served as a student legislator and was nominated to represent my faculty at the Student Union Electoral Commission (SUEC UI), where I served as publicity chairman, facilitating the effective dissemination of electoral information across the university community. These experiences strengthened my leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, while deepening my desire to contribute positively to society. In February 2025, I graduated with first-class honors in fisheries. My experiences have sparked a broader interest in general farming systems and food security. I now seek to further hone my leadership skills, build a network of like-minded individuals, and expand my practical knowledge in modern farming systems, as well as keenly explore innovative, sustainable techniques for efficient food production. My long-term goal is to become a hands-on researcher and agripreneur contributing to food security and sustainable farming practices across Nigeria and beyond.
