I’m Aisha Zannah, an upcoming author, activist, and journalist from Maiduguri, Nigeria. My work centers on gender equality, education, and conflict resolution—causes that have shaped my journey from a very young age. I began my activism at just eight years old, when I won the European Union Gender Equality competition in 2008. Since then, I’ve remained committed to advocacy and storytelling that inspires real change. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of receiving several recognitions, including the Mangrove Action Project award on climate change and a nomination for the 2016 KidsRights Peace Prize. In 2022, I spoke at the United Nations’ Voices for Children initiative, and in 2023, I was humbled to receive the UN Women/UNDP Award for Grassroots and Civil Society Excellence. I also gave a TEDx talk at TEDx Shehuri, where I opened up about overcoming imposter syndrome. As I continue growing and evolving, I’m excited to embrace my voice as a writer. Through my upcoming work, I hope to spark important conversations, amplify marginalized voices, and contribute to building a more just and compassionate world.
